Philosophy

Troop 558 focuses on the three basic aims of scouting as defined by the National Council.

• Mental & Physical Fitness

Our goal is to help boys develop into honorable men. Scouting is a value-based program that offers boys an education directed toward positive and secure growth. Troop 558 uses the eight fundamental methods to meet boys' hopes for fun and adventure.  Our code of conduct is outlined in the Scout Oath and Law.

Boy Participation

Empowering boys to be leaders. Troop 558 scouts learn by doing: and what they do is lead their patrols and their troop. The boys themselves develop our troop's program and then take responsibility for implementing their plan. All of this is accomplished under the guidance and direction of the Scoutmaster and the Assistant Scoutmasters.

Campouts are the primary tool used to develop the character of the scouts. Each scout, as a member of a patrol, will learn through first-hand experience what it takes to function in a team with common goals.

Community service projects are performed throughout the year which encourages our scouts to discover that even though they are young, they still have the ability to make positive changes in their communities.

Adult Participation

There are many ways for parents of scouts to contribute to the success of Troop 558. The basic involvement expected is being a special events volunteer.The event volunteer will donate their time and energy to assist in activities throughout the year such as helping with fundraising events, organizing awards ceremonies and assisting with community service projects or providing specialized skill instruction. A higher level of participation involves being a Troop Committee Member. Duties include those typically entrusted to a small corporation's "Board of Directors", but the most important responsibility is recruiting qualified adult leaders such as the Scoutmaster.  His primary duty is the development of the boys.  A third way to participate is as an Assistant Scoutmaster by working with the boy leaders, teaching skills, organizing activities and projects, and leading by example.
